So, the Christian life is hard, right? That’s one thing this view will help you avoid. He knew that God alone can raise the dead, God alone can give hearing to the ear. This sermon was delivered at The Iron Hall Assembly in Belfast, Northern Ireland, by Pastor David Legge. That's what we've been studying in the book of Ephesians for the past year and a half or so, and we've seen in the first three chapters of Ephesians the theory, the doctrine, then the second half is the practice: how this doctrine affects your life. Like Philippians 2:12, “Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. ', but 'Have you seen God's protecting power in your life?'. I love 2 Timothy 2:24. I think about death a lot, because few things make me more serious about my own walk with God than to think that in about thirty seconds I might face him. Do you see everything that's against you? Remember the rich young ruler? All material by David Legge is copyrighted. This copyright is exercised to keep these materials freely available to all. This will also help you balance. Don’t limit what you think God can do through you. And he had it fixed in his mind that the philosophical meaning for the word “Hedonism” was that happiness becomes the criterion for right and wrong. It’s a gift. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation". No matter how hard the truth is, no matter in the reception of the truth how uncomfortable it becomes to us as human beings, and how difficult we find it is to live up to the truth, it does not absolve us of preaching the truth. Believe in me that you not thirst.” So here’s my definition of faith on the basis of John 6:35: Believing in Jesus is a coming to Jesus so as to find your heart hunger and heart thirst satisfied. And the war is to rest in the right place, and it just happens to be hard to rest for Christians who are worldly. He tells me to rejoice in the Lord and always rejoice. In Paul’s mind, the Christian life is war, and if you want to simply coast in this culture, which is drifting hell-ward, that’s where you’ll go. That’s right. No! It can’t be essential, because it’s commanded, and you don’t have control over it. For 33 years, he served as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota. People theologically make two kinds of mistakes here. Daniel was in the lion's den, He took away the bite, but he still had to go into the lion's den. What must that have been! Keep in mind that prayer is not our way of getting God to do what we want. But these angels are great, awesome beings, ministering spirits - and the miraculous thing about it is this: they're there for us! “I will make my horse ready. Our obedience is actually part of our assurance that we truly know God (1 John 2:3). So God will not tell you to date someone you don’t want to date. God is for you — He is a good God. There are several things that this modesty accomplishes. He wrote that. You shouldn’t be promoting Christian Hedonism.” My response is that Christian Hedonism does not make happiness the measure of right and wrong. Now how can that be so? It is a long and hard battle. Now in verses 9 to 12 we saw last week that God reinforces, and as if - in case we forget - in verse 9, in case we forget that there is a condition on these promises in this Psalm, which is verses 1 to 4: you've got to dwell in the secret place of the Most High, you've got to abide under the shadow of the Almighty. When you're in it, it's a different matter altogether!'. In part 2 we established that man has a polygynous nature both from biology and from Biblical example. In case, as you're going through the rest of the verses about all the diseases that you're protected from, and everything that could happen to you that's not going to happen to you because you're in God - in case you forget that there's a condition, in verse 9 he says: 'Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation' - 'I'm reminding you that this isn't unconditional. They are so dead in their trespasses and sins that they love stuff over their Maker and Campus Crusade has said now, “Go save them.”. Listen to this amazing word from Jesus in Matthew 24:12–13. The thesis of this Psalm, the main point of Psalm 91 and the verses that we will look at today in the short time that we have left, is this: God has provided protectors, and God has provided His promises that assure us of His protection. If you want to teach your kids to love God, they need to see that you love God. So that point about Matthew 24 is just to say that the fight is real, it’s long, it’s serious, and it’s about joy, because love growing cold, I think, is a way of saying, “Love going joyless.”. 4:13). You will have a holy domestic home if you dwell in God. They that are with you are more than they that are with them! And so, they have an impossible task, because all those students are natural. You recognize Jesus as your treasure. Christian Hedonism makes God and his word the measure of right and wrong, whether you like or not — and it’s a sin not to like it. Nevertheless, it was not I. And if nobody attacks the city, God kept them from attacking the city. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. Did he need to see angels? Whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Now, notice the parallel of those two halves. When there are cataclysmic events, spiritually speaking, taking place in humanity and in our world, angels appear - and the natural makes way for the supernatural. Therefore, I cannot separate saving faith from a heart satisfaction in Jesus as my treasure. I held up my little finger last night. 'And Elisha answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. The cobra which can't hear its charmers, nobody can tame it, but God can tame it! Joy belongs to the Lord.”. That cannot be true in view of 1 Corinthians 13. I don’t feel like it.” I might not say it out loud, but God knows that’s what I’m thinking. It guards me against thinking that I decisively produce the joy that God demands and therefore life becomes a series of techniques. Christians are unavoidably out of step with this world. The second thing is our - your - responsibility of when you hear the truth, bringing your life into line with the truth. It does not submit to God’s law. Do you hear what the ministry is? Therefore this is when we must pay attention to the personal desires we have. The Lord’s servant. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5.
